I've been to Rome lots before, and seen the baths before, but this time, they had just introduced the VR headset. The baths themselves are amazing, the buildings are huge, and the complex itself is massive, with an underground that I was lucky enough to visit, though it was closed the second time. The first time I visited, a couple of years ago, though impressive, the site was hard to really envision as a bath complex. The VR headset made SUCH difference, and I honestly would recommend to anyone visiting here to pay the extra 7 euros each and get a headset. It made the experience so much better. You actually see what each room would look like, and you can look around, and compare it to the ruins.

If you're interested in Ancient Rome please don't miss out on this gem. It seems that most tourists don't know about it and therefore it's a quiet sanctuary to wander around taking in the vastness of these ruins and pondering on what was once here After visiting the Roman forum and colosseum my husband and I visited the baths. There is a fair amount of information on the plaques throughout the baths. I've started the day with a visit of Terme di Caracalla then continued with via Apia. Be prepared to walk around the area - 30 - 40 min. The ruins are impressive and well preserved.

Nice walk down past the palatine and then over to the terme di caracalla, maybe depends on walking speed, I went here in the evening to see Carmen played out with the buildings in the background and it is a stunning place to visit especially for a show. Another hidden gem. We spotted the site from the Roman Forum and our tour guide said it was worth a visit. And he was right - the sheer scale of the place blows your mind. As we visited in July it was very hot - would be great to have a few shaded places to sit and as previous reviewers have said, a water fountain or 2. Would definitely recommend this place as it is amazing and also not as busy as some of the other sites in Rome. It was lovely to have a peaceful stroll through the ruins.
